Maybe you stumbled onto this blog and want to know what the heck is SoWal 30A and where is it? Good question. Some of us folks who live here and vacation here take it for granted that everyone knows 30A. Well in case you are one of the uninitiated, SoWal is what we call a 26 mile stretch of beach in Walton County on the NW Florida Coast of the Gulf of Mexico; SoWal stands for South Walton. 30A is the scenic highway/beach road that runs along SoWal's sandy edge. An 18 mile stretch of that highway has laid claim to the name "30A" but the road runs along the whole northern coast of Florida. SoWal 30A is an area that because of it's many state parks and state forest, has stayed pretty with a lot of natural spaces and thanks to a height restriction, there are very few high rise condominiums (at least on the aforementioned 18 miles known to locals and loyal visitors as 30A). We have a small full-time population. I think the population of the whole county is around 50,000 but in the summer months people come to the beach and our population swells with second home owners and beach vacationers.
Some people think of the Panhandle as the Redneck Rivera and that's okay with us, keeps out the rif raf. We are very pleased to call this special spot home and we love to show visitors around the area. We structured this blog to showcase the different beach villages and link to 30A property listings for those interested in living or owning a vacation home here.
